Going to try to do something different here with a quick weekly notes post.

It’s fall and the weather is wonderful. I’ve been enjoying some walks with the kiddo and it’s a great way to wind down after work.
What I’ve been reading
I’ve not read as much stuff of late, but a few interesting ones included:
https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2025/09/thirty-years-later-simcity-2000-hasnt-changed-but-i-have
This was an interesting read on how we approach games changes as we age and grow.
https://www.anildash.com/2025/09/09/how-tim-cook-sold-out-steve-jobs
An interesting read about the corporatization of what was once a profoundly anti-establishment company.
Gotta love some keebs.

A thoughtful piece that we need to remember what we’re giving up for convenience when we make that trade.
What I’ve been watching
A very interesting look at how tech founders approach technology. It reminds me of a joke I heard back in college. We’d just gotten a new dean for the college of computing and he wanted to tell an ice breaker joke:
There are only two industries that refer to the consumers of their products as “users”.
It was funny then, but given how the industry has evolved since 2008/9 when he said it, it’s mostly just sad now.
Always a good time. I really appreciate how he leaves in all of the “Huh, that’s not working let’s find out why” parts because it really helps show people that tinkering is often necessary to get stuff working.
I’ve been mostly able to avoid the distro hopping itch, but between this and cosmic I think it’s probably coming sooner than later.
“But wait, it gets even worse”…
An interesting look at some of the benefits of physical media. There has definitely been a growing movement for this, and I think a lot of it boils down to intentionality. People want to have control and make a conscious choice about what they consume, and the little bit of friction of physical media (or just an ipod) essentially forces that.
What I’ve been playing
I just finished up Lorelei and the Laser Eyes, which was fantastic. It’s one of those puzzle games where when I finished unlocking all of the shortcuts I was sad because it meant that I’d done all of those puzzles and they were good fun.
I think there was only two puzzles I had to give in and look up help for, and even after seeing the hints they were VERY out there and I’m not sure I’d have been able to get there on my own even with weeks to ponder it.
9/10
What I’ve been listening to

Kiki Rockwell’s latest is still a great listen. Neko Case is a forever love as well. I also revisited some older favorites like Omnia, GloryHammer, and Fuck Buttons.
